When applying WebHMI in our own projects and those of our partners, we often face the need to solve non-standard data collection tasks and requests for special devices that would allow us to solve these tasks efficiently. During the implementation of these projects, we developed products that eventually formed a whole line of products manufactured under the 7bit trademark:

Remote peripherals and controllers

These are modules that allow you to add real signals to the system or control external devices.

Synapse v1


A multifunctional distributed peripheral module for monitoring and control systems that supports communications via industrial Modbus TCP and MQTT protocols. The presence of 2 Ethernet ports and ~220V power supply simplifies installation into the existing infrastructure as much as possible, and the slim body allows it to be placed in typical electrical distribution cabinets. Support for the MQTT protocol allows the module to be used in cloud-based monitoring and control systems.

Synapse v2


A remote peripheral module with very powerful functionality that will be useful for a wide range of automation tasks. At the same time, it combines the usual properties of I/O devices with PLC control functions and modern IoT technologies.

This device can be used as an element of a control or data collection system based on classical SCADA, or as an independent control system for small objects or mechanisms (pump room, heating station, HVAC, etc.), or as a node of a dispatch system based on cloud services.

7bit Modbus Proxy


Compact one-port caching gateway Modbus RTU – TCP, which reduces polling time in large industrial networks, isolates bus segments from each other (galvanic and “logical” isolation), improves the reliability of the exchange. It has one PoE port (power supply from 9 – 48Vdc) for network connection, WiFi client mode, one isolated RS-485 port.

7bit Mediator


7bit Mediator is an Ethernet to serial bus gateway for any user device protocol.
Its main purpose is to speed up communication and facilitate access to controllers that use the non-standard and slow RS-485 fieldbus interface and connect them using the standard Modbus TCP protocol. RS-485 communication is realized using the popular Lua scripting language. It has one PoE port (power supply from 9 – 48Vdc) for network connection, WiFi client mode, one isolated RS-485 port.

7bit CloudPoint


7bit CloudPoint is a gateway for integrating small engineering systems with cloud services. It has Ethernet, WiFi, RS-485 serial bus (isolated) and supports the MQTT protocol for communication with IoT systems such as Level2 or others. With this module, you can connect to an automation device with an interface, read the necessary parameters and transfer them to the cloud system. It is also possible to implement feedback. Using the built-in Lua scripting language, the data can be read, processed properly, and transmitted in the desired format further. In addition to the standard Modbus RTU, it is possible to connect almost any device using the same Lua.

Wireless Lora telemetry

This is a solution for wireless telemetry collection, in which data is transmitted over the radio channel using Lora technology. In general, the system consists of one or more wireless, autonomous 7Bit Airpoint radio modules and a 7Bit Airgate data gateway that receives messages over the radio channel and transmits them to any upper-level system, such as WebHMI, other SCADA or cloud IoT platforms, such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, etc., over a local network or via the Internet, using the MQTT protocol.

A feature of this concept is the long autonomous operation of telemetry modules (more than 1 year, or approximately 50,000 packets, from the battery, with the ability to transmit data over a distance of up to several kilometers in open areas and up to 1000 meters in urban areas).

Examples of applications

Monitoring of climate and air quality parameters (temperature, humidity, CO₂ content) for office buildings, sports clubs, schools, hospitals, etc.

These types of facilities are characterized by large crowds of people. In many cases, retrofitting them with additional sensors in the premises allows you to obtain objective information about the operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, properly balance their operation, and as a result, reduce operating costs, while increasing the level of comfort. As a rule, such a task cannot be solved by standard industrial automation equipment due to the size of these facilities, lack of necessary communications, unwillingness to spoil the interior decoration, etc. In the case of radio modules, the deployment of such a system will take only a few hours, and the sensors can be placed exactly where they are needed, not where they are not.

Collecting telemetry data at utility facilities.

Current trends in the domestic housing and utilities sector have led to the emergence of tens of thousands of condominiums and hundreds of management companies. The use of autonomous radio modules allows you to quickly and cost-effectively automate data collection from metering devices, monitor engineering networks: coolant supply temperature, flooding, pump operation, phase loss, etc., and control access to attics and basements. Have convenient remote access to this information, including through various cloud services.

Collecting telemetry data in the greenhouse industry

Characteristic features of these facilities are: long length and lack of communications. Thanks to the available set of sensors and communication capabilities in such conditions, Airpoint modules are ideal for solving greenhouse climate monitoring tasks. The standard set of signals includes 2-point air temperature control, humidity, soil temperature, coolant temperature, heating system pressure, and door opening/closing. In combination with the capabilities of the WebHMI integration controller, which can also control all engineering systems: water supply pumps and valves, boiler room, emergency generators, etc.

Connect signals from remote systems and devices

There are tasks where remote parameters are interconnected with a certain process plant, which you would like to see together with the data of the plant itself, or to ensure that the plant is controlled depending on the value of the remote parameter:

  1. Water consumption in the water utility main with the transmission of a flow signal to remote water treatment stations for the correct dosage of reagents
  2. End position sensors for shutters, latches, etc.

The module is powered by 3 ordinary AAA batteries (or microUSB) and can read the following parameters:

  • 2 temperatures (built-in and/or external sensor)
  • humidity (built-in) sensor
  • 2 digital inputs that can operate in the following modes :
    • state
    • counting input
    • alert
  • embedded shock sensor (optionsl)

The data is transmitted at regular intervals, for example, 15 minutes, except in the alarm mode, when the appearance of a signal on the digital input (or from the accelerometer) immediately triggers data transmission.  To receive data, you must use a 7bit AirGate gateway.

7bit AirPoint – M


The wireless stand-alone module is used to transmit digital or analog signals and data from devices with communication interfaces via the Lora radio channel. To receive this data, a 7bit AirGate gateway must be used, which converts the data received via the Lora radio channel from multiple AirPoint modules into MQTT protocol packets and transmits them further to an MQTT broker (server) in a local network or the Internet.  Depending on the configuration, the module can perform the following functions:

  • Read the status of discrete signals (2 pcs.). These can be pressure switches, flood sensors, door openers, etc.
  • Measure analog parameters – level, pressure, flow. For this purpose, the module has 2 analog inputs 0-10V, as well as a power supply for the sensors. You can also power 4 … 20m sensors with this source.
  • Count the consumption of resources using counting inputs (this function is performed by discrete inputs)
  • Interrogate metering devices (or other devices) via a digital interface – RS-485/Mbus/TTL and collect any data, not only resource consumption

It is used to monitor air parameters with data transmission via the Lora radio channel. To receive this data, a 7bit AirGate gateway (or AirGate Combo) must be used, which converts the data received via the Lora radio channel from many modules into MQTT protocol packets and transmits them further to an MQTT broker (server) on a local network or the Internet.
