A multi-function module or distributed peripheral controller (2 AI/8DI/8DO) for monitoring and control systems that supports industrial Modbus TCP and MQTT communications.

A remote peripheral module with very powerful functionality that will come in handy when solving a wide range of automation tasks. At the same time, it combines the usual properties of I/O devices with control functions from PLC, as well as modern technologies from the world of IoT.

This device can be used as an element of a control or data collection system based on classic SCADA, or as an independent control system for small objects or mechanisms (pump, heating station, HVAC, etc.), or as a node of a dispatching system based on cloud services.

The module has 8 discrete inputs (also have a counter function) for monitoring the state of the equipment, and 8 relays for control.

Usually, on any object of automation, in addition to discrete signals, there are always analog parameters that you would like to see or control – pressure, level, pressure drop, temperature, etc. For example, the temperature of the supply and return pipelines, pressure and speed of rotation of the pump motor, etc. Or these parameters may not be needed immediately, but over time. The module has 2 analog inputs, which is its absolute advantage, there is no need to install an additional ADC module.

Sensors with a 1Wire interface are currently the most profitable solution for measuring temperatures in the climatic range (-40 + 85°). It should be noted that sensors of this type are quite sensitive to electromagnetic interference on the communication line, but the Synapse module uses a specialized line driver configured for the worst case scenario when many sensors are connected or a long cable is used.

In production monitoring systems, it is very often necessary to evaluate not only the condition of equipment, for example, machines, but also their productivity, consumption of resources and material, which is easiest to do with the help of a simple revolution sensor, or a proximity sensor and counting pulses from it. Another task is to assess the strain of mechanisms for timely preventive maintenance or repair. Our module has everything you need for this – because each discrete channel has such functions.

The module has an integrated environment for development and execution of Lua scripts, with the help of which you can turn it into a full-fledged controller for controlling equipment, or perform auxiliary functions – form data in the necessary format for sending to the cloud, ensure a safe state at the outputs in case of loss of communication with a top-level system, etc.

Connecting an Ethernet device to the network requires a free slot in the router, switch or second adapter in the computer. If there are no free ports at the installation location, additional equipment will need to be configured. But not in the case of the Synapse module, because it has on board a 2-port switch working in “bridge” mode, so the module can be installed almost anywhere in the existing infrastructure.

When it is not possible to connect the module via Ethernet, the built-in WiFi module will come in handy. It works in two modes: “access point” for module settings, and “client” for operation.

Thanks to the support of the IoT (“Internet of Things” protocol) of the MQTT protocol, the module can be directly integrated into “smart city” type applications, or be self-sufficient to create a simple monitoring system of such an object as, for example, a heating point. The event-oriented MQTT protocol allows data to be transmitted over slow GPRS networks. The necessary visualization and control object interface can be created in a “cloud” system such as Level2.
